
Tavistock Celebrates is a group of individuals and organisations that have come together to create and encourage opportunities to promote, celebrate and share the wide variety of diverse cultures that make up our local community. We hope that by building connections and sharing knowledge and experiences we can support integration and challenge anti-immigrant misinformation - we believe that a diverse community is a stronger community!

Refugee Week 2025
Join us for a week of relaxed and welcoming events, exhibitions, workshops and performances exploring and celebrating the many cultures of our local community!
Mon 16th - Sat 21st June
Drop in all week @ Tavistock Library
A welcoming, exciting and educational community space!
Displays of art created by local refugees and school groups, stories written by local refugees and immigrants, recipes from a variety of cultures to collect and try at home, information about local services supporting diversity and inclusivity and much more!
Wednesday 18th June
1pm onwards @ Tavistock Library

Short Film Community Cinema
We'll be showing a series of short films exploring the National Refugee Week theme of 'communities as a super power'. The films encourage us to learn about and celebrate the diverse way we build and sustain our communities, whether it be how we respond to a crisis together or recognise 'home' through the smells of familiar foods. Come and enjoy together.

Cardboard Communities Art Project
Take part in our drop in workshop, working with artists to build and decorate a cardboard structure that represents 'home' for you and your family. Each individual piece will be assembled alongside the others to construct our own unique cardboard community!

Tiny Travels Interactive Cultural Learning Session - African Heritage
Tiny Travels Cultural Education CIC provides children in Devon with the opportunity to learn about different cultures in a fun, accessible, educational way with the mission to help promote understanding, reduce stereotypes and combat racism in the British countryside.

Festival Feast - A Multicultural Picnic In The Park!
A community picnic! Bring a dish that represents you, your family and your culture.
Share your food with others and try what others bring. Take away some new recipes to explore at home!

Performance - "Farewell Jamaica"
A captivating and heartwarming one man play about Neville Connor's Windrush journey as he leaves Jamaica in search of a brighter future helping to re-build England after WW2. This interactive tale is filled with joy, emotion and laughter. It highlights the history and challenges encountered by migrants living in and travelling to Britain in a thought provoking, engaging and multi-sensory way.
